What should I do if I run out of food or water?
Burning Man is based on radical self-reliance so you must bring enough supplies for your entire stay. However the community is very supportive and you can check with nearby camps or the Black Rock Rangers if you find yourself in an emergency. There are no stores on site to buy supplies so preparation is absolutely vital before you arrive at the gate.
Are there any items that are strictly prohibited from the event?
You are not allowed to bring stand-up scooters, motorcycles, fireworks, or large quantities of glitter and feathers that could create litter. Drones are also heavily regulated and require prior registration and a pilot permit to be operated within the city limits. Firearms and weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden to ensure the safety of all participants in the desert.
How do I manage my waste and trash while at the event?
Every participant is responsible for their own trash and must pack out everything they pack in to the desert. You should remove excess packaging from your food before arriving to minimize the waste you have to manage on the playa. There are no trash cans provided by the event so you must secure your bags to your vehicle for the drive home.
Is there any cell phone service or internet available on the playa?
Cell service is extremely unreliable and usually non-existent due to the remote location and the high volume of people. You should not plan to rely on your phone for communication or navigation and should instead use the printed guides provided at the entrance. Disconnecting from the digital world is encouraged to help you stay present and fully engage with the physical community around you.
What is the role of the Black Rock Rangers at the event?
